Insights into Core Distribution Network Technologies: Line Composition, Construction Key Points, and Self-healing Technology Application

Jan 16,2026

1. Composition of Distribution Network Lines
Distribution network lines are generally composed of conductors, insulators, cross-arms and their supporting iron fittings, concrete poles, stay wires, base plates, anchor plates, and other related components. As an illustrative example, the configuration of a stayed single pole for straight-line sections is shown in the figure below:

2. Key Tasks in Overhead Distribution Line Construction

1.Foundation (pit) excavation

2.Work on poles/towers

3.Pole/tower erection and assembly

4.Conductor stringing, tensioning, and removal

5.Installation and maintenance of high-voltage overhead insulated conductors

6.Work in close proximity to energized (live) conductors

7.Work on partially de-energized lines within multi-circuit configurations on the same pole or tower

3. Distribution Network Self-healing Technology
Since September 2025, the "Ground Fault Feeder Automation (FA)" system has entered its pilot application phase. Together with the existing "Phase-to-Phase Fault FA," it constitutes a more comprehensive fault management system. "Technology development must address real-world challenges," stated Sun Ranran. "Each innovation is driven by the goal of enhancing grid operational reliability." Currently, the average time required for fault isolation and supply restoration in the Ningbo distribution network has been reduced by 80%, marking a fundamental shift from "passive emergency response" to "active self-healing." This advancement has led to systematic improvements in power supply reliability and operational response efficiency.
