State Grid Plans Record 4 Trillion Yuan Investment for New Power System in 15th Five-Year Plan Period

Jan 23,2026

1.State Grid Corporation of China has announced plans to invest 4 trillion yuan in fixed assets during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030), setting a record high. This represents a substantial increase of approximately 40% compared with the total investment made during the previous 14th Five-Year Plan period.

The massive investment will be channeled into three core areas: advancing the green and low-carbon transition of energy, constructing a new-type power system, and deepening technological innovation. It is also expected to drive coordinated development across the upstream and downstream industrial chains by expanding effective investment.

Looking ahead, State Grid aims to initially build a new-type power grid platform characterized by the coordinated operation of the backbone grid, distribution networks, and smart microgrids. The company plans to increase its cross-provincial and inter-regional power transmission capacity by more than 30% compared to the level at the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan period. This enhanced infrastructure will provide robust support for the development and long-distance transmission of clean energy from major bases, such as those in desert and arid regions (like the "Sha-Ge-Huang" areas) and large-scale hydropower projects in southwestern China. These efforts are crucial for optimizing China's national energy structure and achieving its "dual carbon" goals(peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality).

2.Recently, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) Distribution Network New Equipment & Technology Forum and Standard Launch Conference was grandly convened in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province.

Focusing on the exchange and implementation of new technologies, new equipment, and new standards for distribution networks, the forum has built a high-end communication platform for industry development. Numerous industry experts and energy & power professionals gathered to explore new paths for the high-quality development of distribution networks.

The products exhibited at the forum cover core categories such as new China Southern Power Grid Feeder Terminal Units (FTU), distributed Distribution Terminal Units (DTU), integrated primary and secondary pole-mounted circuit breakers (capacitor-powered), and domestic standardized distribution terminals. Centered on "localization, intelligence, and reliability", they demonstrate profound technological accumulation and strong R&D capabilities in the field of distribution automation.
