Polaris Smart Grid Online News: According to Polaris Power Transmission and Distribution Network, Shaanxi Province's installed power capacity has increased from 72.75 million kilowatts in 2020 to 127 million kilowatts in 2025, with the installed capacity of renewable energy growing by approximately 2.7 times. During the same period, the province invested a total of 120 billion yuan in strengthening its power grid and expanding transmission channels, making the grid more robust and reliable.
According to statistics, during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Shaanxi put into operation over 10 million kilowatts of clean and efficient coal power capacity, with newly approved and under-construction coal power projects reaching a historic high for the same period. A total of more than 38 million kilowatts of coal power capacity underwent energy-saving and carbon-reduction retrofits, heating upgrades, and flexibility modifications, while 660,000 kilowatts of capacity were phased out and decommissioned.
In addition, by the end of 2025, Shaanxi's installed renewable energy capacity reached 65.12 million kilowatts, 2.7 times that at the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period, accounting for over 50% of the province's total installed power capacity. For the first time, it surpassed thermal power to become the primary power source.
In terms of UHV projects, the North Shaanxi–Hubei ±800 kV UHV DC transmission project has commenced power transmission; the North Shaanxi–Anhui ±800 kV UHV DC transmission project has broken ground; and the Shaanxi–Henan ±800 kV UHV DC transmission project has been submitted to the central government for approval. These major transmission "arteries" are linking regions, continuously delivering green electricity from Shaanxi to Hubei, Henan, Sichuan, Shanxi, Hebei, and beyond. In 2025, Shaanxi's outbound electricity volume exceeded 100 billion kWh for the first time, making it the second province in Northwest China and the sixth nationwide to surpass this milestone.
In terms of distribution network construction, Shaanxi has invested a total of over 50 billion yuan, securing 510 million yuan from central government budgets for rural grid upgrades. The province has built new substations, expanded transmission lines, and renovated rural power grids to improve grid interconnection rates and per-household capacity. As a result, the province's power supply reliability rate and voltage qualification rate have increased to 99.895% and 99.82%, respectively.
Over the past five years, Shaanxi has also built a total of 462,000 charging piles, including 107,000 public charging piles—a 6.3-fold increase compared to the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period—and 355,000 private charging piles, marking a 7.8-fold increase from the end of the previous five-year plan period.
