The grid-side energy storage in Gansu Province has officially participated in the province's medium and long-term trading.
Jun 10,2026
Recently, it was learned from the State Grid Gansu Electric Power Company that since May 1st, when the grid-side energy storage in Gansu Province fully participated in the provincial medium and long-term transactions as power generation units, by the end of May, the contracted electricity volume of 20 qualified grid-side energy storage enterprises in the province reached 47 million kilowatt-hours. The market operation was stable and orderly, marking a crucial step forward in the market-oriented operation of new business entities in the Gansu power market.
In recent years, the supply-demand ratio of the Gansu power market has continued to increase, and the opportunities for grid-side energy storage to discharge at high prices have decreased, narrowing the profit space for energy storage enterprises. The market demand for grid-side energy storage enterprises to participate in the provincial medium and long-term transactions has become increasingly urgent.
In response to the demands of market entities, the Gansu Power Exchange organized energy storage enterprises to hold discussions and investigations, coordinating the connection between the medium and long-term markets and the spot market, and strengthening multi-professional collaboration in dispatching, marketing, and other aspects. The 2026 Fourth Meeting of the Gansu Power Market Management Committee reviewed and determined that the grid-side energy storage discharge side in the initial stage of the market would participate in transactions as power generation units. The relevant transactions and settlement work would be carried out in accordance with the relevant regulations of the provincial medium and long-term and spot markets.
It is introduced that the Gansu Power Exchange will continue to track the market operation dynamics, continuously optimize the transaction mechanism and service guarantees, explore new models and paths for new business entities such as energy storage to participate in power transactions, continuously improve the market ecosystem with diversified participation and fair competition, and provide support for the construction of a new power system in Gansu and the high-quality development of the power market.
