The 2026 annual meeting of the Central Enterprises' New-Type Energy Storage Innovation Consortium was held.

On May 29th,under the guidance and support of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council and the National Energy Administration, the 2026 annual work conference of the Central Enterprise New Energy Storage Innovation Consortium was held in Shandong. The conference,with the theme of "Pooling wisdom to tackle technological challenges and climbing the peak of technology, striving forward to embark on a new journey of energy storage", focused on releasing the top ten achievements of the consortium in 2025, conducting annual excellent task special reports, holding representative intention signing for new members and a new energy storage technology forum.
The conference comprehensively summarized the work achievements of the consortium in 2025 and deployed key scientific and technological innovation and other important tasks for 2026. During the meeting, State Grid Corporation of China delivered the annual work report of the consortium and a special report on the quality improvement and upgrading action, and released the overall implementation plan and next steps of the quality improvement and upgrading action of the consortium. Many member units shared the latest innovative achievements and technological progress in the field of new energy storage. Among them, a number of landmark achievements such as the development of a battery separator resistant to 400 degrees Celsius were widely concerned in the industry.
The Central Enterprise New Energy Storage Innovation Consortium was jointly established by State Grid Corporation and Southern Power Grid in July 2024. Currently, it has gathered 138 member units and 1,200 core research and development experts. The consortium aims to solve technical problems through collaborative innovation, drive technological iteration and industrial upgrading through scenario applications,focus on four core research directions:chemical energy storage, physical energy storage, large-scale support, and multi-scenario applications, and coordinate the layout of 60 key research tasks. The annual construction goals have all been achieved.
Under the leadership and drive of the consortium, China's new energy storage industry has achieved a leapfrog development: the scale and level have risen to the top globally, reaching 136 million kilowatts by the end of 2025, with the installed capacity and growth rate ranking first in the world; significant achievements in achievement transformation and industrial ecosystem construction have been made, with more than ten pilot lines and production lines for super capacitors and other technologies built, 20 achievements selected for the list of first-of-a-kind major technological equipment, more than 20 billion yuan of energy storage funds established, promoting the industrialization application of more than 150 patent achievements, training 500 young experts, and building 10 industrial parks; breakthroughs have been achieved in multiple technical routes and demonstration projects, lithium-ion battery energy storage entering the gigawatt-hour scale, the largest compressed air and liquid flow battery energy storage projects in the country have been put into operation, and the international first 100-megawatt flywheel energy storage power station has been successfully demonstrated and implemented; the cost has rapidly decreased, facilitating high-quality development, with the price of energy storage cells dropping to 0.3 yuan per watt-hour in 2025, a decrease of approximately 70% compared to 2023.
It is introduced that the consortium will continue to tackle tasks in four aspects: deeply exploring basic frontier research, attacking key core technologies, accelerating industry leadership and industrial driving, and promoting cross-border integration and scenario innovation, and comprehensively plan the long-term development of new energy storage.
